Dr. Mark Doyle, one of the best plastic surgeons in Queensland, has over 30 years of experience and has performed hundreds of face lift surgeries with meticulous skill and expertise. A facelift, often referred to as rhytidectomy, is a surgical operation that tightens and removes drooping skin from the face and neck. It tightens the underlying tissues and eliminates sagging or loose skin from the mid-to-lower face. The objective is to decrease wrinkles to achieve a more youthful look.

Dr Doyle is based on the Gold Coast and specialises in facial rejuvenation surgery. He operates out of John Flynn Private Hospital, just a 5-minute drive from Coolangatta airport. He works with a set surgical operating team (Nurse Assistant & Anaesthetist) who are all highly esteemed in their field.

Dr Doyle firmly believes in patient-centred care and will listen to your needs before recommending any treatment plan.

What is a Face Lift?

A face lift, also termed facial rejuvenation or Rhytidectomy, is an ideal way to get rid of the changes in your face that come from age. When you age, your skin stops being elastic and doesn’t have much fat, which causes it to sag and hang loosely. Your skin also gets more folds under your chin, on the sides of your neck, and at the corners of your mouth. The bones in your face also change shape and size. A facelift procedure addresses all of these problems to help you look younger again.

Face Lift Surgery

After a facelift, your face can look much more youthful. A facelift can be done alone, or it could be done with other surgeries. For example, you might want to have a neck lift, eye lift or brow lift at the same time as your facelift. A face and neck lift is the most common combination procedure.

Those who have a facelift with me often say that their friends and family tell them how refreshed they look after surgery.

Dr Doyle

Dr Doyle strongly believes in natural results when it comes to facelift surgery. He believes that you should look more youthful yet natural and not overly tight.

Benefits of Facelift Surgery

Facelift surgery can help you to appear more rejuvenated and refreshed, as though you’ve been on a relaxing holiday. It helps to improve jawline contour, neck contour (when a neck lift is included), and sagging facial skin. Scars are hidden in the natural contours of the ears and behind the ears, so they should not be visible to the untrained eye.

Face lift Procedure

What to expect from a SMAS facelift

Full face lift surgery requires a general anesthetic and takes anywhere from two to four hours to complete. Patients are usually able to go home on the same day.

There are two main types of facelifting surgery, a mini facelift or full facelift. These are both invasive procedures. A full face lift requires more comprehensive incisions and is, therefore, able to tighten more excess skin. Both of these surgical procedures address aging in the lower face region.

A face lift can tighten your cheeks, contour your neck and emphasise your jawline while removing any wrinkles and droopy skin. Many men and women choose to have a facelift to achieve a more youthful-looking appearance.

We regret that patients whose baseline health is borderline (BMI over 30, smokers, heart/lung/kidney disease, etc) may not be good candidates for face surgery.

Lower Face Lift

A Lower Face lift is a surgical procedure to remove excess fat and skin in the lower face. This surgery addresses the marionette lines, jowls, and wrinkles around the mouth. The procedure can also improve the contour of the neck and lift the corners of the mouth. Depending on the specific needs of the patient, a lower facelift can last for years. If you are considering this procedure, be sure to talk with your surgeon before your surgery.

What is the best facelift procedure?

A deep plane facelift is one of the best facial rejuvenation procedures and is considered a long-lasting type of facelift. The procedure is often combined with other surgeries to achieve the best results. This facial procedure is best suited for patients who are unhappy with their appearance and have aging signs. The results of this cosmetic surgery can be seen in before and after pictures, so it is advisable to discuss the procedure with Dr. Doyle before scheduling the procedure.

As with any cosmetic surgery, a deep plane facelift may not offer permanent results. This is because the aging process, skin growth, and the effects of gravity continue to work overtime. However, if you are committed to maintaining a consistent weight and healthy lifestyle, your results may last even longer. In this case, a deep plane facelift could be the perfect choice for you. You may have a younger-looking face and neck, and your appearance can appear rejuvenated for many years.

Facelift Recovery

After a facelift, you can have bruising and swelling. This will last for up to three weeks. It is up to you how soon you want to go back to work. But it is important that you take at least a week off from work to recover from the surgery.

You can sleep with your head elevated if your face is swollen or sore and take pain medication if it hurts too much.

Dr. Doyle will give you aftercare instructions so that there are fewer complications after the surgery.

Exercise can only be resumed after six weeks once your face is completely healed. Read Dr Doyle’s cosmetic surgery recovery tips to ensure a smooth recovery time.

You will notice a difference when the swelling goes down. Your final results won’t be seen for a long time – about 12 months after surgery. It is important to have patience. Your face lift results will last a long time but is not permanent.

How much does a Facelift cost?

The cost of a lower face lift is variable because each patient has specific goals and requirements. Once a tailored approach has been decided on, surgeon, anaesthetist and hospital fees will also be factored into the final cost of the surgery.

Since a facelift is a cosmetic procedure, it won’t qualify for a Medicare rebate. However, if the facelift is required for medical reasons (such as after an accident or trauma) some of the costs may be covered. The only way to receive an accurate surgical estimate is to schedule a consultation with Dr Doyle.

Face Lift FAQs

What’s the Right Age to Have a Facelift?

The right age to have a facelift is different for each individual.
Factors that influence when you should consider having a facelift include the state of your skin, muscle tone, and elasticity. Essentially this means whether or not your lower face is ‘saggy’.
Other considerations include your lifestyle and how you feel about getting older.

How long does a face lift last?

A facelift may last for a long time if you take care of your skin. It’s important to know that face lift results are not permanent. This is because gravity will continue to work, even after your plastic surgery procedure.

Does a facelift get rid of wrinkles?

A facelift can help to remove wrinkles from the bottom area of the face and around the mouth and jaw. After a facelift, some may need other cosmetic treatments (fillers and anti-wrinkle injections) to keep them looking younger for longer.

Do facelifts leave scars?

Face lift scars are a big concern for many. However, it is impossible to perform facelift surgery without leaving scars. Dr Doyle can do the surgery in a way that scars won’t be obvious, and they will become less visible over time.

How much scarring can I expect after my facelift surgery?

When it comes to surgery, scarring can’t be avoided completely. Because the incisions are placed near the hairline, they are barely noticeable. Your scars will also fade away naturally over time.

Dr Doyle will also provide you with scar management tips to manage scarring after face lift surgery.

What are the risks and potential complications of a facelift?

There are risks with facelift surgery. The most common risks are bleeding, scars, asymmetry, and hair loss at the incision site. These events will be discussed during your initial consultation.

Can I have a full facelift if I smoke?

If you are a smoker, it’s highly recommended that you stop smoking for at least two to six weeks prior to your procedure. Smoking can affect the healing process because it affects blood flow and vessels. There are also certain medications and supplements that will need to be avoided in the week leading up to your surgery.

You will need to stop smoking during the recovery period for at least 6-8 weeks.

What should I do to prepare for a procedure?

Any surgical procedure starts with an initial surgical consultation. During your consultation, Dr Doyle can provide you with more specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery.
