What can I expect at my first visit with Dr Doyle?
At your initial consultation with your plastic surgeon, you’ll be invited to share information about your area of concern and your desired result. Dr Doyle will assess this along with any information you provide him to provide an honest, professional opinion about your surgical options – including whether or not you are suitable for surgery. The potential risks and complications will be explained to you in detail, as well as how to minimise these from occurring.
In your first appointment you will:
- Spend time with your surgeon, nurse and patient coordinator
- Have your photos taken
- Undergo a physical assessment
- Discuss your medical history (including any medications and supplements you’re currently taking)
- See before and after photos of previous patients
- Explore your recommended surgical options
- Learn about your surgery in more detail
- Explore associated risks and complications
- Choose size options (for augmentation procedures)
- View expected results with Crisalix 3D imaging (for selected procedures)
- Find out pricing and potential surgery dates
- Get all your questions answered
Your initial appointment should take 1 hour. This allows time for you to develop a strong relationship with your surgeon and your patient coordinator.
You are more than welcome to bring along a supportive relative or friend to meet Dr Mark and help you decide which surgical option is best. We understand it can be difficult to take in all the information discussed during your first consultation so this person can help you to recall any important procedure information you may have missed.
All this information will be given to you on the day to take home, along with important consent forms which will explain the procedure details to consider before committing to surgery.
If you are unable to make it to our plastic surgery practice near the Coolangatta International Airport, Dr Mark offers video (FaceTime or Skype) consultations for regional or overseas patients. Dr Mark regularly sees patients from Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Ballina, Lismore, Byron Bay, Tweed Heads and Northern Rivers. For patients that are travelling further and require local accommodation, you can view Dr Doyle’s recommendations on our travelling patients’ page.
Virtual Consultation Requirements
Dr Doyle offers Skype consultations to his patients that are unable to attend our Gold Coast practice. These consults are available by request. Prior to your appointment, we ask that you email us the following information:
1. Your Skype Account
Please let us know your Skype account name in advance so that Dr Doyle can call you at your requested appointment time. Once he initiates the video chat, your consultation will begin.
2. Photos of Your Desired Result
Selecting your “wish pics” to show Dr Doyle will give him an idea of the type of look you wish to achieve.
Models should be similar in size, shape and features to yourself.
For breast procedures, models should be nude. Think about why you like your chosen pics: Do you like the cleavage? Do you like fullness in the upper portion of the breast? Do you like the size? Do you like the side boob? Or are you looking at the overall feel of the picture?
You may select images from our Before and After photo galleries on our website or elsewhere.
3. Pictures of Yourself
Please send us images of your area of concern.
For any breast surgery, we require the following shots:
Pictures With a Pen – Please take and submit three pictures: Face on, left and right sides, with a pen placed under your breast crease.
*Don’t push the pen up into the crease as this will distort the breast tissue. Your arms must be in a neutral position. This works best if you have someone else taking the photos for you. Good natural lighting is a must (example images pictured).
Pictures Without a Pen – Please also retake all three pictures, face on, left and right sides WITHOUT the pen.
4. Your Measurements (in cm)
For breast surgery, please measure the following:
Underbust – place a tape measure firmly around your chest and let it rest just under your bust, making sure that the tape is lying straight across your back. Pull it snug but not too tight.
Individual Breast Width – for both left and right breasts
Please make sure all required information is sent through to email@example.com prior to your consultation.
Medicare and Surgery Pricing
Towards the end of your first consultation, the Doyle team will provide you with an estimate of fees and answer any cost enquiries you may have. If there are Medicare item numbers applicable, Dr Doyle will advise his team to check if any Medicare or private health insurances rebates apply.
You can access our patient resources to find about more about the potential costs involved with your surgery:
If you decide to commit to surgery, our team will schedule in your procedure and accept the required deposit.
With all cosmetic procedures, a second complimentary consultation with Dr Mark is needed for planning, customisation and to review the details of your surgery. We encourage you to bring your signed consent forms along and be open to taking more photographs if they are required.
This is an in-person consult only. If you are a travelling patient we will arrange for this to occur within a close time frame of your procedure.
Plastic Surgeon Consultation FAQs
How much time should I allow for my appointment?
While you are provided with an initial 1-hour appointment, it’s possible that it may exceed this time depending on what needs to be covered. Allow at least 90 minutes for your initial consultation with Dr Mark.
What if my surgeon is running late?
While it’s uncommon, occasionally your surgeon may be slightly behind schedule. We apologise in advance if Dr Doyle is running slightly behind schedule on the day you attend. If there are any significant delays our receptionists will advise you by mobile. We have a beautiful, relaxing reception area and free tea, coffee, and chocolates so simply allow an extra bit of time just in case.
Where can I park?
We have free client parking available. There is also plenty of on-street parking to take advantage of.
- Parking on-site in our parking lot is unlimited so long as you’re attending our Clinic at the time.
- Parking is available on the street in front of the building and side street adjacent to the building.
- Immediately across the road is another parking area.
- All parking is FREE with no time limits.
Do I need a referral (GP or specialist) to book a consultation?
You are advised to bring a referral to your appointment but it is not required to book a consultation with Dr Doyle. The advantage of having a referral is that it can allow you to claim a small Medicare rebate for the cost of your first consultation. This rebate is usually around $70.
If you wish to claim this rebate, please check that your referral is valid before booking your consultation. A GP referral is valid for 12 months and a specialist referral is only valid for 3 months.
Do I need a referral if my surgery is covered by Medicare?
A GP referral is required for your initial consultation as if your surgery is deemed medical in consultation, you will be entitled to a medicare rebate for the consultation cost.
How do I know what I will look like after surgery?
We use Crisalix 3D imaging technology to show you the possible outcomes of your surgical procedure. For all breast implant surgery patients, Dr Doyle will use Crisalix to allow you to try on multiple size implants and get a feel for your results.
How much does a surgeon consultation cost?
Your initial consultation cost with specialist plastic surgeon Dr Mark Doyle is $285. This amount is paid in advance to secure your consultation date. You can pay this by phone or direct debit.
How soon can I get a consultation?
The Doyle team will try to get you a plastic surgery consultation as soon as possible. This may be within 3 days and 3 weeks from the time of your booking request. Occasionally there may be longer waiting periods, but we’ll do our best to cater to your preferred consultation date and time.
How long after consultation can I have my surgery?
All cosmetic surgery procedures require a 10-day cooling-off period from the date of your consultation. This allows you to consider your procedure and risks in detail before committing to surgery. The waiting time for surgery may be longer than this mandatory 10 day waiting period.
