With age, the cheeks tend to flatten, droop and look hollow in appearance. This is due to a decrease in natural collagen production which results in our fat pads deflating in size. Dermal filler corrects this volume loss by injecting a soft injectable gel consisting of hyaluronic acid – a sugar molecule which naturally occurs in the body.
Nasolabial Folds
The fine lines or folds which travel from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds) can make you appear older. This is a direct result of volume loss in the cheek as well as everyday emotions like smiling or laughing. By filling the cheeks, the skin pulls upwards which can tighten and lessen the appearance of these unwanted nasolabial folds.
Tear Troughs
Tear troughs are the space between the lower eyelid and the cheek and typically consist of thin tissue. As the cheek naturally loses volume, the tear troughs lose their support which can create a deeper and darker appearance often referred to as ‘eyebags’ or ‘under-eye hollows’. What to Expect
During your initial complimentary consultation with your registered nurse, you will be invited to share your aesthetic goals associated with your cheek filler injectable treatment. This will allow your nurse to develop a personalised treatment plan specific to you.
Once the consultation is complete and you have decided to continue with the treatment, you will have photos taken. These will be stored confidentially for our injector to assess your progress. *We will not share your photos on our website or social media unless you specifically consent for us to do so.
Before your treatment, your cheeks will be cleaned thoroughly and a numbing agent will be applied to minimise any discomfort. Your injectable product may already be mixed with anaesthetic to help with any discomfort but this will be discussed during your consultation. For topical anaesthetic, it’ll take about 15 minutes for the numbing agent to work, then your treatment will begin.
Your injections will be focused on the areas that you wish to improve, which can be a combination of the medial cheek, the cheekbone or the upper cheek. You will be encouraged to assess your results with a handheld mirror and can suggest areas you may like to see more volume.
Once your treatment is complete, you will receive your aftercare instructions and a complimentary follow-up appointment will be arranged within the next fortnight.

Do I need a consultation?
Yes. This treatment requires a doctor’s assessment and prescription so you will be required to undergo a consultation to determine the best method of treatment.
How much dermal filler will I need?
This decision is completely up to you. While our nurses can advise on an amount to achieve your desired result, it’s ultimately your choice. Cheek filler never adopts a one size fits all approach. Patients with more volume loss will require more filler to achieve re-volumisation.
Do dermal fillers hurt?
The injections may feel like a slight pinch as they enter the treatment area and you may feel pressure as the gel substance is injected. If you have a low pain tolerance or are concerned about the pain you might feel, you can ask your nurse to apply a numbing agent to the treatment area.
What’s the recovery period like?
In the days following your cheek enhancement treatment, you may experience slight bruising and swelling. This will resolve within a matter of days.
What are the risks?
We can discuss with you in consultation any risks associated with cheek filler. Some risks may include:
- Asymmetry
- Bruising
- Redness
- Swelling
- Infection
- Migration
Are the results immediate?
Yes. You will be able to identify the increase in cheek volume immediately after your treatment. Some of this may be a result of swelling so it’s important to wait a few days before judging your final result. Because your cheeks may swell, we advise getting cheek dermal filler at least two weeks before any big event.
