You may be considering getting cheek filler injectables for barely visible cheekbones. Cheek fillers or cheek enhancement is a procedure that uses dermal filler to lift the cheekbones, add volume to your face and also smooth out lines and wrinkles. Cheek filler results are temporary and can be used to plump the central cheek or most commonly, add definition to the cheekbone structure.

Dermal fillers to the cheek typically last 8-18 months before the results of the treatment are no longer noticeable. Eventually, with time and as a result of other lifestyle factors, the product used in cheek injections will dissolve and metabolize into your skin tissue. The procedure itself takes around 30 minutes to complete and topical numbing cream can be used to reduce any discomfort.

Benefits of Cheek Dermal Filler

  • Replace lost volume – with age and weight loss, your cheeks may lose their volume which can make your face appear ‘flat.’ Dermal fillers, when applied to the cheeks, can recontour your face structure, plump the cheek and add more definition.
  • Balance your features – It’s not uncommon for men or women to have uneven cheek volume on either side or as a whole in comparison to their other facial features. Injections of dermal filler to the cheek helps to restore your facial balance and add volume so that your cheeks are proportionate and naturally full.
  • Define your cheekbones – ‘Chiseled’ cheeks are one of the most desirable features for facial aesthetics. Adding volume on top of the cheekbones helps to add contour and can also create the appearance of a slimmer lower face using angles.
  • Achieve ideal cheek structure – The ‘ogee curve’ or the ideal cheek structure is a double S-shaped curvature along the cheek. This is best appreciated from a 45-degree angle and when shaped well, contours the entire face and adds dimension.

Flat Cheeks

With age, the cheeks tend to flatten, droop and look hollow in appearance. This is due to a decrease in natural collagen production which results in our fat pads deflating in size. Dermal filler corrects this volume loss by injecting a soft injectable gel consisting of hyaluronic acid – a sugar molecule which naturally occurs in the body.

Nasolabial Folds

The fine lines or folds which travel from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds) can make you appear older. This is a direct result of volume loss in the cheek as well as everyday emotions like smiling or laughing. By filling the cheeks, the skin pulls upwards which can tighten and lessen the appearance of these unwanted nasolabial folds.

Tear Troughs

Tear troughs are the space between the lower eyelid and the cheek and typically consist of thin tissue. As the cheek naturally loses volume, the tear troughs lose their support which can create a deeper and darker appearance often referred to as ‘eyebags’ or ‘under-eye hollows’. By adding volume to the upper cheek, you can effectively reduce the appearance of the lower eyelid and refresh the overall facial aesthetics.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Cheek filler is ideal for you if you have lost volume in the cheek that you wish to restore, you want to recontour your face and make your lower face appear slimmer, you want to reduce the appearance of smile lines or you want to correct the presence of eye bags.

What to Expect

During your initial complimentary consultation with your registered nurse, you will be invited to share your aesthetic goals associated with your cheek filler injectable treatment. This will allow your nurse to develop a personalised treatment plan specific to you.

Once the consultation is complete and you have decided to continue with the treatment, you will have photos taken. These will be stored confidentially for our injector to assess your progress. *We will not share your photos on our website or social media unless you specifically consent for us to do so.

Before your treatment, your cheeks will be cleaned thoroughly and a numbing agent will be applied to minimise any discomfort. Your injectable product may already be mixed with anaesthetic to help with any discomfort but this will be discussed during your consultation. For topical anaesthetic, it’ll take about 15 minutes for the numbing agent to work, then your treatment will begin.

Your injections will be focused on the areas that you wish to improve, which can be a combination of the medial cheek, the cheekbone or the upper cheek. You will be encouraged to assess your results with a handheld mirror and can suggest areas you may like to see more volume.

Once your treatment is complete, you will receive your aftercare instructions and a complimentary follow-up appointment will be arranged within the next fortnight.

Cheek Filler Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a consultation?

Yes. This treatment requires a doctor’s assessment and prescription so you will be required to undergo a consultation to determine the best method of treatment.

How much dermal filler will I need?

This decision is completely up to you. While our nurses can advise on an amount to achieve your desired result, it’s ultimately your choice. Cheek filler never adopts a one size fits all approach. Patients with more volume loss will require more filler to achieve re-volumisation.

Do dermal fillers hurt?

The injections may feel like a slight pinch as they enter the treatment area and you may feel pressure as the gel substance is injected. If you have a low pain tolerance or are concerned about the pain you might feel, you can ask your nurse to apply a numbing agent to the treatment area.

What’s the recovery period like?

In the days following your cheek enhancement treatment, you may experience slight bruising and swelling. This will resolve within a matter of days.

What are the risks?

We can discuss with you in consultation any risks associated with cheek filler. Some risks may include:

  • Asymmetry
  • Bruising
  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Infection
  • Migration

Are the results immediate?

Yes. You will be able to identify the increase in cheek volume immediately after your treatment. Some of this may be a result of swelling so it’s important to wait a few days before judging your final result. Because your cheeks may swell, we advise getting cheek dermal filler at least two weeks before any big event.

How long will my cheek filler results last?

In most patients, the results of high-quality cheek filler will last 8-18 months although it may be longer.

What products do you use?

Please note that due to TGA guidelines, we are unable to advertise the brand names of dermal fillers on our website. However, we stock the leading brands of all injectable fillers and are able to discuss these freely during your consultation.

How much do cheek fillers cost?

Prices at Gold Coast Plastic Surgery start at $499 per ml of dermal filler. Most patients will achieve their desired results using 1-2 mL of dermal cheek filler.

How do I book?
