Lips are generally defined by their shape and volume. Lip volumiser or lip augmentation is a procedure that uses dermal volumiser to achieve fuller and increased lips. Lip volumiser results are generally temporary and can be used to achieve an increased size and shape including a well-defined cupid’s bow.
The timeframe of your lip volumiser treatment depends on the product selected as well as factors including your skincare routine, sun exposure and diet. Some products can last longer than others but on average you can expect the results of your treatment to last between 8 – 18 months. The procedure itself takes around 60 minutes to complete and topical numbing cream is always used to reduce discomfort.
Lip Volumiser
- Increased Lip Volume – Whether you’d prefer to increase the volume of your lips, your cupid’s bow, your vermilion border or the philtrum, tailored treatments with our registered nurse can increase the size of your lips.
- Fast Treatment – Lip volumiser generally only takes 30 minutes to administer and uses an ultra-fine needle and a topical anaesthetic. You may experience a small pinprick sensation during treatment but it is quite fast in comparison to cosmetic treatments.
- Non-Synthetic Volumiser – The main ingredient in lip volumiser is hyaluronic acid and it’s a naturally occurring substance found in the human body. It adds volume and reduces fine lines leaving you with increased lips.
- Results – Lip volumisers generally don’t change the shape of your lips, rather they increase them. Lip volumiser can increase the size of your lips and accentuate all defining characteristics of your lips.
- Professional Administered – Lip volumiser treatments are performed by our registered nurses and require a complimentary consultation beforehand.
What Can Be Improved with Dermal Lip Volumiser?
Size
We can add volume to small or thin lips to create increased lips.
Proportion
The proportion of the lips describes the lip proportion relative to the rest of the face.
Among Caucasian patients, the ‘golden’ ratio of the vertical height of the upper lip and the lower lip is 1:1.6. Which creates a slightly fuller bottom lip.
Lip Border and Shape
The border of the lip is the sharp demarcation between the lip and the skin. Loss of this border is characteristic as we age, and can easily be increased with lip volumiser to create definition. These treatments are focused around the edges of the lips, on the cupid’s bow and also on the philtrum columns to create a more full shape.
What to Expect
During your initial complimentary consultation with your registered nurse, you will be invited to share your treatment expectations associated with your lip volumiser treatment. This will allow your nurse to develop a personalised treatment plan specific to you.
Once the consultation is complete and you have decided to continue with the treatment, you will have photos taken. These will be stored confidentially for our nurse to assess your progress. Please note, that we do not share your photos on our website or social media unless you specifically consent for us to do so.
Before your treatment, your lips will be cleaned thoroughly and a numbing agent will be applied to minimise discomfort. After about 15 minutes once the numbing agent is working, your treatment will begin.
Your treatment will be focused on the areas that you wish to increase, which can be a combination of the medial lip, the lateral lip, the lip border, the philtrum column and the cupid bow. You will be encouraged to assess your results with a handheld mirror and can suggest areas where you may like to see more volume.
Once your treatment is complete, you will receive your aftercare instructions and a complimentary follow-up appointment will be arranged within the next fortnight.
Lip Volumiser Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a consultation?
Yes, this treatment requires a doctor’s prescription, therefore you will be required to undergo a consultation to determine the best method of treatment and suitability for you.
Does lip volumiser hurt?
This depends on your pain tolerance. Oftentimes patients describe the treatment as a slight pinch followed by pressure or a stinging sensation when the product is being administered. However, this generally only lasts a few minutes and can be relieved with the help of a topical anaesthetic.
What’s the recovery period like?
In the days following your lip volumiser treatment, you may experience slight bruising and swelling. This will generally be resolved within a matter of days or weeks.
What are the risks?
All risks will be explained clearly to you during your consultation. Some of the risks of lip volumiser may include:
- Asymmetry
- Bruising
- Redness
- Swelling
- Infection
- Migration
Are the results immediate?
Yes, generally you will be able to identify the increase in lip volume immediately after your treatment. As there may be some swelling present, we ask you to wait up to four weeks to notice the final results. This is because the dermal volumiser needs time to integrate into your natural tissue. As well as this, swelling and bruising should have subsided by 4 weeks.
Because your lips may swell, we advise getting lip volumiser at least two weeks before a big event and not the days prior.
How long does lip volumiser last?
The dermal volumiser we use is a thick gel product that is designed to last around 18 months. People often find this area lasts up to 2 years, but it may last as little as 1 year depending on factors like your metabolism, lifestyle and genetics.
Can I get 1/2 mL of lip volumiser?
Yes, we can offer ½ mL however, this is often not enough product to achieve a noticeable increase in volume. For border definition, this amount may be enough. This will be discussed during your initial consultation with your registered nurse.
