Skin needling, also known as microneedling, is a minimally invasive skin treatment used to improve your skin’s cell renewal and texture. During the treatment, a SkinPen with micro needles creates deliberate and controlled micro punctures on the top superficial layer of your skin. The punctures stimulate the production of new collagen, which can help to reduce the appearance of acne scars, lines, and overall skin texture.
What is Skin Needling?
This skin treatment uses tiny needles to create tiny punctures in the top layer of skin to stimulate your body’s natural production of collagen.
We currently offer skin needling to treat the face, neck and décolletage. At Gold Coast Plastic Surgery the procedure generally takes 45 – 60 minutes depending on the size of the treatment area.
What are the Skin Needling Benefits?
The benefits of microneedling are numerous and include:
- Reducing the appearance of acne scars, lines, dark spots and other blemishes.
- Improving skin tone and texture by increasing collagen production.
- Increasing absorption of topical products into your skin.
- Little to no downtime with minimal discomfort during treatment.
What Does Skin Needling Do?
Skin needling stimulates your body’s natural production of collagen and elastin which helps to volumise the skin and reduce lines and scarring.
Am I a Good Candidate for Skin Needling?
The treatment is suitable for most skin types and can be used to treat fine lines, scars, age spots and other skin blemishes. We recommend that you speak with one of our qualified Registered Nurses to determine if it is suitable for you.
Is Skin Needling a New Treatment?
No, skin needling has been used for decades and is a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment.
Is Skin Needling Safe?
Yes, skin needling has minimal risks and minimal downtime.
What are the Risks of Skin Needling?
Skin needling, also known as microneedling, is generally safe when performed by a trained Registered Nurse. However, like any cosmetic procedure, it does carry some potential risks which may include:
- Redness and Swelling
- Skin Irritation
- Bruising
- Infection
During a consultation, we can assess your skin type, discuss potential risks, and ensure that the procedure is suitable for you. Following the post-treatment care instructions will also help reduce the risks and promote optimal healing.
Does Skin Needling Hurt?
Skin Microneedling does not usually cause any pain, however, you may experience some discomfort. Some patients may experience a mild tingling sensation during the procedure. If you are concerned about this our Registered Nurse can administer a local numbing agent prior to the treatment.
How Long Do the Results of Skin Needling Last?
The results can last up to a year or more with adequate care and maintenance. We recommend that you use sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher when going outdoors, as sun exposure can reduce the results of treatments. It is also important to avoid extreme temperatures, saunas and steam rooms for at least 24 hours after the procedure.
Will I Bruise / Swell After Skin Needling?
It is common to experience some redness, swelling and bruising. This is a normal part of the healing process and usually dissipates within a few days. We recommend that you apply cold compresses to the treated area for 15-20 minutes at intervals throughout the day following treatment.
How Much Does Skin Needling Cost?
The cost of skin needling varies depending on the area of treatment.
Treatment costs are as follows:
- Full Face – $350 for 1 session
- Full Face – $900 for 3 sessions
- Face, Neck & Décolletage – $650 for 1 session
