Body Liposuction | Gold Coast
About Liposuction – Avoid Large-Volume Liposuction
The team at Gold Coast Plastic Surgery believe that Liposuction should only be used to remove small amounts of stubborn fat. Performing large-volume liposuction can have more risks involved and can cause post-surgery complications.
Liposuction as an ‘Add On’
Please note, that Dr Doyle only performs small-volume Liposuction in addition to other cosmetic surgeries such as abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and breast surgery. Therefore, he will generally not offer this procedure as a stand-alone procedure.
Liposuction is Not a Weightloss Solution
Please note that Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. The ideal candidate for Liposuction is near their healthy weight range (BMI less than 30). If you are overweight or obese, you will need to lose weight before considering surgery.
Gold Coast Plastic Surgery Does Not Offer Corrective Surgery
Many patients are seeking corrective surgery to fix liposuction results they obtained elsewhere. Unfortunately, Dr Doyle does not offer corrective surgery for liposuction results performed by another surgeon.
Please Send In Your Photos Before a Consultation
Not everyone is a suitable candidate for liposuction surgery. You may need surgery to remove excess skin or be recommended another surgical procedure. Before you book an appointment with Dr Doyle, you will need to send in your photos so we can see if you are a good candidate for liposuction.
Liposuction Surgery
Liposuction, also known as Lipoplasty removes excess fat from specific areas of the chin, neck and body, which can be prone to storing pockets of fat. These unique pockets of fat can prevent people from reaching their health goals.
At Gold Coast Plastic Surgery, we use Liposuction to firm and tighten parts of the chin, neck and body, other areas include the upper arms, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs and knees. Depending on your anatomy, multiple areas may also be recommended to be performed in one surgery.
Dr Doyle offers Liposuction to his patients performed as a combination surgery, with other plastic surgery procedures.
Lipoplasty can be performed to remove stubborn excess fat in certain areas and may result in a firmer neck, chin or body. Please note, that Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure.
What is Liposuction?
The Liposuction Procedure
At Gold Coast Plastic Surgery Liposuction is performed as a day surgery procedure under general anaesthetic. In traditional Liposuction, a small tube (cannula) is used to mechanically break down fat before it is suctioned from the body. Small incisions are made in the body’s natural creases, where scarring can generally be hidden by clothing. Dissolvable sutures are primarily used, and these generally minimise scarring. The procedure can last anywhere from one to several hours, depending on what needs to be executed. Whether liposuction is paired with any additional procedures will also make a difference to the surgery duration.
What Are The Benefits of Liposuction?
Liposuction can reduce excess fat cells surrounding the stomach, flanks, thighs (internal/external), knees, calves, ankles, back, buttocks, arms, chin and neck.
Things To Consider Before Liposuction?
To be a suitable candidate for Liposuction, you must have realistic expectations about what the procedure can accomplish for you.
Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your surgery goals and discuss them with your surgeon during your consultation. That way, our Specialist Plastic Surgeons can give you honest feedback about what Liposuction can and cannot accomplish for you.
Liposuction is an option to remove excess fat that won’t budge. The areas most commonly treated include the hips, abdomen, thighs and buttocks, and face. Please note that liposuction does not remove cellulite, only fat.
Who Is A Good Candidate For Liposuction?
A good candidate for Liposuction should have realistic expectations about the results of the procedure as well as:
- Average or only slightly above average weight
- Firm, elastic skin
- In good overall health
- Concentrated pockets of fat that do not respond well to diet and exercise
Please note, that older patients may have diminished skin elasticity and may not achieve the same results as younger patients with firmer skin.
Liposuction carries greater risk for individuals with medical problems such as diabetes, significant heart or lung disease, poor blood circulation, or for those who have recently had surgery near the area to be contoured. It is important to remember that Liposuction is not an obesity treatment. Suitable patients are committed to healthier habits and do not consider Liposuction to be a substitute for exercising.

Recovery After Surgery
The exact recovery time will depend on whether Liposuction was performed as a standalone procedure or not. If you are only undergoing Liposuction as a standalone procedure, you will need to spend at least one week at home recovering. A compression garment is often worn for 6 weeks following surgery as this alleviates swelling, which can aid recovery. Some other factors that can affect your recovery time include age, health and your bodies natural healing ability. It’s essential to follow all of Dr Doyle’s aftercare instructions to ensure an optimal surgery outcome.
Are The Results of Liposuction Permanent?
Liposuction removes excess fat cells but does not stop remaining cells from increasing in size due to excess fat storage. To maintain Liposuction results, you should consume a healthy diet and exercise regularly. This is especially important during your recovery and shortly after your recovery period.
Is Liposuction Safe?
No surgery is risk-free. You should always seek a qualified and experienced plastic and reconstructive surgeon. When you have your initial consultation at Gold Coast Plastic Surgery, Specialist Plastic Surgeon Dr Doyle will explain the potential risks and complications associated with Liposuction. This is not to deter you from treatment but to ensure you understand the risks that can happen during and after the procedure.
Some of the potential complications include:
- Infection
- Fluid loss and accumulation
- Asymmetry
- Loss of sensation in the treated area
Risks can be minimised by ensuring your surgery is performed by an experienced specialist plastic surgeon and in an accredited hospital.
How Much Does Liposuction Cost in Australia?
The cost of Liposuction in Australia can vary based on several factors, and it’s usually priced per area. Since each individual’s needs and goals are unique, the cost can be influenced by factors such as the:
- Number of areas being treated;
- The extent of the procedure;
- The specific technique used;
- Your surgeon’s experience and reputation;
- The geographic location of the clinic;
- Any additional services or facilities required.
For a personalised Liposuction cost, we recommend scheduling a consultation with Dr Mark Doyle. He is a qualified and experienced Specialist Plastic Surgeon who has performed many body surgery procedures. During your consultation with Dr Mark Doyle, he will assess your specific case, discuss your health, and recommend a tailored treatment plan that aligns with your surgery goals.
Dr Mark Doyle is known for his experience in cosmetic surgery and his dedication to providing patients with a high standard of patient care. By consulting with him, you will receive accurate information regarding the Liposuction costs, based on your individual circumstances and treatment goals.
How Should I Prepare For Liposuction?
Dr Doyle will give you specific instructions on how to prepare during your consultation. It’s highly recommended that you stop smoking at least two weeks prior to your surgery as this can slow your healing. Certain medications and herbal supplements will also need to be avoided to prevent excess bleeding and bruising during and after your procedure. It’s advised for you arrange for someone to pick you up from the hospital following your surgery. Having someone to assist you for a few days at home after surgery is also very helpful, especially if you have children.
How Much Scarring Can I Expect After The Procedure?
The incisions required to insert the cannulas under the skin are small, which means scarring will be minimal in comparison to an adbominoplasty. Furthermore, it is also advised for the accurate scar management instructions to be followed post surgery. Keeping your wounds clean, dry and the incision sites out of direct sunlight are just three ways that you can minimise the scarring.
Are There Any Alternatives To Liposuction?
Massage, eating a healthy diet and regular exercise can all reduce the appearance of stubborn pockets of fat. Generally, the reason why a large majority of our patients undergo liposuction is because the above methods are no longer effective.
Will I Need Revisional Surgery?
Like other surgery, Liposuction surgery may need to be revised in the future. If there are any minor irregularities, excess fat is still present, or excess skin needs to be removed, a second procedure may be required.
